Troop News 1/18/2022

1/19 – Troop Meeting St. Mary’s School Key meeting theme will be trail cooking ideas and demonstration.  We will be outdoors for part of  this meeting to use trail stoves.  We will also be discussing Troop positions of responsibility that are available for the Scouts to take on.

1/26 – Troop Meeting St. Mary’s School We will be meal planning and tuning up sleds for the February Freeze Out at Camp Resolute.  We will also have Scouts put in their requests and commit to the positions of responsibility that they are interested in.  The PLC is also planning a fun game using Morse code.

Upcoming Trips

Feb 5:  PLC Discussed having the Troop attend the Freeze Out at Camp Resolute in Bolton.   This will be similar to the camporee that we attended in October, but will have different events.  This is sometimes referred to as the Klondike Derby.   The plan at this point is just to attend for the day.  Depending on the weather forecast leading up to the event we could possibly do an optional Saturday night sleepout.  The PLC will go over the Trip and Competition Events at January 12 meeting.

March 5 – Pat’s Peak Ski Resort in Henniker NH is hosting a Scout Ski Weekend.  There is an option to stay over on Saturday night after skiing.  The website says space is limited, so I need to make some phone calls and find out details.   REQUEST –  I need to know how many of the Scouts ski or would be interested in taking a lesson.  How many people are interested and have that date available for a trip? There are several options that you can read about here, but if we can do the Sleepover we would ski 2pm – 10pm for $70 lift and rentals and snow tubing (5-10pm) & $29 for the sleepover accommodations.

April 8-10 Rocky Woods in Medfield (Tenderfoot Weekend)

May 14-15 – Canoeing on the Charles River and camping overnight at Rocky Narrows in Sherborn.   This is another Trustees property, which has a boat landing and a campsite that we can reserve.   We would probably launch in Millis and spend the day canoeing up to the site.  We would be taking all of our gear in the boats.  This would be a true “roughing it” Scouting Experience!
