6/2 Swim Test – Franklin YMCA 7:00 to 8:00 pm

In preparation for the upcoming June Kayaking Trip we will need to test Scouts swimming ability.
We primarily need to test the Scouts who have not been on this trip in the past and/or have not passed the “Swimmer” classification at Squanto summer camp (2 years ago) The test is to jump feet first into the pool and level off. Swim 75 yards in a strong manner with a front stroke (crawl, side, breast stroke, trudgen) and 25 yards with an easy resting back stroke. Then float/rest for a minute. The swim needs to be completed without stops and include one sharp turn.
If in doubt, please have your scout complete the swim test. For those who are not planning to go on the June Trip, it may be a good idea to swim test anyways in case we do something else this fall or next spring (canoeing, white water, etc..)

Please RSVP for this event through Scoutbook

6/18-6/20Washburn Island Kayaking

Departure will be from the Franklin VFW Hall Friday June 18th. Meeting at 4pm for 4:30pm Departure. Friday late afternoon we will Kayak in tandem Kayaks about 2.5 miles out to Washburn island. Saturday we will circumnavigate the island in our kayaks on a guided tour by a local marine biologist. We can expect to learn about the local coastal ecosystem as well as the history of Washburn Island. We will also hike and explore the 330-acre island which contains marshes, sand dunes, and small ponds, and woods. We may also be able to tour the Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve. Volunteer Opportunity

The Town of Franklin is looking for volunteers to assist with Earth Day Clean up on April 25th from 9-12. Mr. Apicella has pre-approved this event to count towards Scout’s service hours as long as they are not trying to count towards another organization (like High School) and they can provide evidence that they were there (event says they will issue certificates).  This is a good way to earn 3 hours of community service towards rank advancement.   Scouts are asked to wear their yellow class b shirts while participating (try to work together in groups) to help provide visibility to the troop as well. Sign up with the recreation department below:
