5/9 – Troop Meeting @ the Charter School 7 – 8:30pm and Summer Camp Parent Informational Meeting
- Troop elections for Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders will be held at the troop meeting on May 30. If we have any scouts or leaders eligible to be elected to the Order of the Arrow, that vote will also be held on May 30. Please see Mr. McGuire if you are interested in the SPL or PL positions in order to be placed on the ballots.
- Additionally, as of May 1, all scouts who have been in Positions of Responsibility (POR) this year will have to reapply for positions. This excludes those positions that make up the Patrol Leaders’ Council (SPL, PL, ASPL, Scribe, Troop Guide). If you are interested in a position, please see Mr. McGuire for details as to what is available. Priority is given to those scouts who need a POR for rank advancement, but other scouts are encouraged to apply as the troop needs help with leadership positions. The troop’s guide to all -the PORs is available on the troop’s website Troop 29 POR Expectations. Remember that there are minimum requirements for the PORs that are expected to be met for rank advancement (e.g., attendance on campouts). Please take these into account when considering a specific POR.
- Summer Camp Registration form and $200.00 deposit/initial installment of camp fee is due to secure spot in camp. Any registrations received after 5/9 will be assessed a $20.00 late fee (Camp Squanto Policy). There will be an information meeting at 7pm.
Message to Scouts: Please return all merit badge booklets that you no longer need. If you have completed a merit badge or have decided not to finish a badge you started, please bring the booklets to the meeting this week and give them to Mrs. dos Santos.
5/16 – Troop Meeting @ Beaver Pond **** Note Change in location****** 7 – 8:30pm
- We will be planning for the Canoeing Trip.
- We will be meeting at Beaver Pond to review some Canoeing tips and safety. Scouts should come prepared wearing a swimsuit and closed toed footwear suitable for water. Scout should also bring a flashlight and/or headlamp as it may get dark towards the end of the meeting. Please note, any scouts working on the Citizenship MB with Mrs. Dos Santos will meet at the Charter School at 6pm and then a parent will need to bring the scout over to Beaver after the class. She will end the MB class a little early so that everyone can get to Beaver for 7pm.
May 18-20 – Canoeing at Lower Wood River, RI
- Departure will be from the VFW Hall at 5:30pm Friday May 18th. Scouts should arrive at 5pm to the VFW hall to help prepare the Troop and their Patrols for departure.
- Base camp Friday night will be at Aquapaug Scout Reservation in South Kingston, RI. Saturday we will canoe part of the Lower Wood River returning to base camp later that day.
- Arrival back in Franklin Sunday morning to the VFW Hall at approximately 10am.
- All scouts are required to have passed the BSA Swim test within the last 12 months to participate in this activity. Having earned the swimming merit badge is not sufficient, a current passing BSA Swim test result is required.

5/23 – Troop Meeting @ the Charter School 7 – 8:30pm
5/28 – Memorial Day Parade at 10 am
- Troop requests all scouts that are not marching with their band in the parade participate with the troop. We’ll need some adult leaders to walk with scouts
- Class A uniforms, water, comfortable shoes, sun screen
- Drop off at 10am behind Dean Bank, on Dean Ave. Leaders should arrive 10 min earlier to receive scouts being dropped off
- Parade concludes at the Common around noon – families are encouraged to stay for the ceremony

- Final fee for Summer Camp is due. All required forms for Summer Camp must be submitted. BSA Health forms due by last regular troop meeting June 20.
6/6 – PLC & Committee Meeting @ the Franklin United Methodist Church.
- PLC (6:30 – 7:30)
- Committee Meeting (7:30 – 8:30) All adults are encouraged to attend the committee meeting. Planning will be done for the next scouting year.

6/13 – Troop Meeting @ the Charter School 7 – 8:30pm
June Campout: June 15-17 – High Adventure Park at the Heritage Museum in Sandwich, MA.
- Departure will be from the VFW Hall at 5:30pm Friday June 15th. Scouts should arrive at 5pm to the VFW hall to help prepare the Troop and their Patrols for departure.
- Base camp Friday night will be at Camp Greenough, Yarmouth. Saturday we will be having our high adventure returning to base camp later that day. Scouts will have a 30 minute orientation & safety session followed by 2 hours of fun, climbing various aerial trails. There are 5 different aerial trails in increasing difficulty.
- Arrival back in Franklin Sunday morning to the VFW Hall at approximately 10am.
- Both the Heritage Museum and Gardens Online Waiver and the BSA Activity Consent form must be filled out.

Troop 29 Summer Camp!
All scouts are strongly encouraged to attend camp with the Troop at Camp Squanto this summer. Camp plays an important role in individual scout development and strengthens our patrols and troop. Handouts will be available and informational sessions will be held during Troop meetings on April 25th and May 9th.
Key facts
- Camp runs from Sunday July 15th through Saturday July 21st
- Cost is $400 per scout, with additional brothers $300 each. Camperships may be available, please see Mr McGuire.
- Payment due May 9th.
- Complete BSA Health Form parts A, B and C is required for all scouts and adults staying at camp over 72 hours. Adults staying less than 72 hours require parts A and B only.
- The troop will need an additional 1 or 2 adults for each day the troop is at camp. If you can assist for 1 or more days please sign up.

Youth Protection Training
Over the past two years, the BSA has worked with experts in the field of child abuse, child sexual abuse and maltreatment to develop new training and resources that will further strengthen our ability to protect youth. These changes include:
- Fully updated and revised Youth Protection Training developed with leaders in the field of child abuse prevention and includes insights from experts, survivors and the latest strategies for recognizing and preventing major forms of abuse. This is the designated Youth Protection training for all adults.
- Expanded youth protection content across all our communications channels will inform and engage our volunteers and parents.
- An expanded National ScoutsFirst Helpline to aid volunteers and families in addressing potentially dangerous situations.
- The BSA also provides unlimited counseling and support for healing to anyone who has ever been abused in Scouting.
- Youth protection training for youth members will be available in 2019.
By October 1, 2018, all new and currently registered leaders will be required to complete the updated training. The enhanced and updated content will allow leaders and councils to comply with all current legal requirements. While this may be inconvenient for some, it reflects the BSA’s commitment to the safety of all youth.
