Troop News 4/25/2016

April Events:

April 27 Troop Meeting 7pm

Eagle Project: Blood Drive   Saturday April 30 9-3pm  at the Charter School

Matthew Pepin is hosting a Blood Drive in Partnership with Dana Farber and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.  Any adults available to donate blood are welcome to sign up.  Scouts who are not attending the hiking trip can contact Matt to help out during the event.    For more information and to sign up to donate blood click here

 

Eagle Project:   Wheelchair Accessible Walkway   Saturday April 30 3-6pm at Wrentham Development Center

Come help out at Karlan DeWitt’s Eagle Scout project next weekend on Saturday April 30th from about 3 – 6pm,  at the Wrentham Developmental Center. We will be creating a walkway that’s wheelchair accessible along with other landscaping and overall improvements.  It will probably range around  3 hours and will count for community service hours for any badges or school requirements. We will only need 3 – 5 people and we can provide means of transportation. If you are interested or have any questions you can contact Karlan at karlan.dewitt@ gmail.com or talk with him at the troop meeting.

Effective  Thursday, April 28, all Eagle Boards and Eagle Project Reviews will now be permanently held at:

St. Mary’s Parish Auditorium

205 Washington Street

East Walpole, MA    (across from Bird Park)

May Events:

May 1 –  BSA Swim Test – 3pm YMCA Franklin, MA   Swim Test Sign Up

May 7 –  FundraiserCar Wash @ Uno’s in Bellingham – 11:30-4:30.  Sign up to help at the Car wash

All scouts  need to participate in this event to ensure success for the Troop.    Each scout should sign up to volunteer for a minimum of 2.5 hours.  If a scout is unable to support the fund raiser, the scout needs to contact their patrol leader

Personal Fitness Merit BadgeMrs. Roche will starting this merit badge with scouts interested. It would tentatively start May 18.   Scouts, if  you are  interested, you must 1. Email Mrs. Roche at Jean.roche@comcast.net (copy a parent as well, please) and 2. Get a booklet for the badge from the Librarian.   Do not start the any exercise logs without prior planning and approval from Mrs. Roche.

5/18   Troop Elections
  • The troop will hold elections for leadership and Order of the Arrow
  • Leadership positions will include Senior Patrol Leader and Patrol Leaders.  Scouts, please begin to think about if you would like to serve in any leadership position and let your SPL or Scout Master know at this week’s troop meeting.
  • Order of the Arrow candidates will also be voted for.   The troop is changing the timing of this vote so that all scouts can be included in the vote.

 

May 20-22 – Troop Outing – Canoeing

This month the troop will be canoeing on the Pemigewasset River in New Hampshire.  Departure will be from the VFW Hall at 5:30pm Friday May 20th.   Base camp Friday night will be at Branch Brook Campground in Campton, NH.

Both the Canoe rental company Ski Fanatics release form and the BSA Activity Consent form must be filled out with emergency contact info, signed and $40 fee paid by check to the Troop prior to the trip.   Submit completed forms and check to the troop activity administrator Gregg Klawson by May 6th.

 

June Events:

6/4 – 6/5  Scout Leadership Training Weekend (ILST)
  • For the newly elected and appointed scout leaders, there will be a weekend camp out of training that is mandatory.
  • On 6/4 in the morning, the newly defined PLC will plan for next years events
  • Joining in the afternoon will be the rest of the newly appointed leaders.
  • Please mark this weekend on your calendars and after the 5/18 elections, finalization of location and attendees will be made

 

Troop 29 Summer Camp 2016

  • Location: Camp Squanto (200 Cuttersfield Rd, Plymouth, MA 02360)
  • Dates:  July 17th to 23rd (check-in Sunday afternoon, pickup Saturday -times TBD)
  • Cost: $395/scout and $325 for the 2nd or more scouts from same family.
    • First installment of $200.00 is due at the 04/27.
    • Final Payment due 5/11.
  • All paperwork needs to be completed and submitted by 05/25.

Troop News 4/18/2016

April 20No Troop Meeting – Enjoy April Vacation

April 27 – Troop Meeting 7pm

MISSING EQUIPMENT:  In checking our equipment for the upcoming back packing trip, we are missing several back pack stoves and cooking gear.  Please have your scout check in their backpacks to see if they accidently brought them home with them.  The stove is very small and should be in a black nylon bag and the cooking gear consists of small pots that nest together.  Also, if you have any blue water jugs, bring them to the next troop meeting.

This month the troop will be day hiking in Western Massachusetts.  Departure will be from the VFW Hall at 5:30pm Friday April 29th.   Base camp Friday night will be at Moses Scout Reservation in Russell MA and on Saturday we will drive to a trail near Mt Washington MA and day hike.  We will return to base camp later Saturday and then return to Franklin Sunday morning to the VFW Hall at approximately 10am.

Reminder: Community Service Event Tomorrow (4/16)

Join your fellow scouts to help clean Franklin State Forest on Saturday 4/16 from 9:30am – noon (rain or shine).  The clean up involves trash clean up and clearing of trails.

Troop News 4/11/2016

April 13Troop Meeting and Committee Meeting at 7pm.  Summer Camp Informational Meeting will also be held at 7pm for any parents interested.

Medical form (as required by BSA guidelines for all scouts and volunteers) can be found at:  http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_ABC.pdf  Other specific details will not be available until the council’s kickoff meeting at the end of the month. We will make an announcement for the scouts at the troop meeting on March 30th.  All other forms, merit badge class options, and gear lists will be available for the announcements on April 4th.

For parents of any scouts wishing to attend camp, we will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 13th, at 7 PM (simultaneous to the regular troop meeting).

Eagle COH Reminder and Community Service Event

Eagle Court of Honor Tomorrow!   Saturday  April 9 Eagle COH @ Franklin United Methodist Church, on West Central Street Franklin 4pm. 

  • All families are encouraged to attend.
  • Scouts please arrive @ 3:00pm in Class A with bolos/sashes to rehearse for the ceremony.
  • Ceremony begins at 4pm.
  • Troop families are asked to help with the reception immediately following.  Families with last name:
    • A-K please bring beverages (small bottles of water, juice, soda, etc)
    • L-Z please bring a dessert
