Troop News 3/28/16

Upcoming Troop Events and Outings:

March 30 – Troop Meeting and we will host a Meet and Greet to have current Troop 29 parents meet new Webelo families.   Dessert and coffee will be provided and all troop parents are encouraged to attend.   Friends of Scouting Presentation will also be presented.

MBU Reminder: Please return all MB pamphlets to the Troop Librarian upon the completion of MBU at the end of March.

April 6 – PLC Meeting  7pm

April 9Eagle COH @ Franklin United Methodist Church, on East Central Street Franklin 4pm.

  • All families are encouraged to attend.
  • Scouts please arrive @ 3:00pm in Class A with bolos/sashes to rehearse for the ceremony.
  • Ceremony begins at 4pm.
  • Troop families are asked to help with the reception immediately following.  Families with last name:
    • A-K please bring beverages (small bottles of water, juice, soda, etc)
    • L-Z please bring a dessert

April 13 – Troop Meeting and Committee Meeting at 7pm.  Summer Camp Informational Meeting will also be held at 7pm for any parents interested.

April 29 – 30 – Troop Outing – Backpacking – More Details Soon!

May 7 –  Fundraiser – Car Wash @ Uno’s in Bellingham – 11:30-4:30

May 20-22 – Troop Outing – Canoeing – More Details Soon!

 

Troop 29 Summer Camp 2016

  • Location: Camp Squanto (200 Cuttersfield Rd, Plymouth, MA 02360)
  • Dates:  July 17th to 23rd (check-in Sunday afternoon, pickup Saturday -times TBD)
  • Cost: Based on recent years, estimate is $385 to $400-half due 4/27, balance due 5/25
  • Coordinators:    TJ Lynch (also attending camp and Tim Cook

 

Medical form (as required by BSA guidelines for all scouts and volunteers) can be found at:  http://www.scouting.org/filestore/HealthSafety/pdf/680-001_ABC.pdf  Other specific details will not be available until the council’s kickoff meeting at the end of the month. We will make an announcement for the scouts at the troop meeting on March 30th.  All other forms, merit badge class options, and gear lists will be available for the announcements on April 4th.

For parents of any scouts wishing to attend camp, we will hold an informational meeting on Wednesday, April 13th, at 7 PM (simultaneous to the regular troop meeting).

Congratulations to  Jeff Maloney for being awarded the Silver Beaver award.   The Silver Beaver is a national award and is made for noteworthy service to youth, to scouting and to the community.   Jeff will be presented with the award on April 2nd at Lombardo’s in Randolph.  If you are interested in attending, RSVP is being accepted through 3/21  http://oldcolonycouncil.doubleknot.com/event/1878668 .  Cost is $45 per person.

Troop News – 3/7/16

Upcoming Troop Events and Outings:

March 9 – Troop Meeting and Committee Meeting ** at 7pm

   ** In effort to be more efficient and to help with scheduling, we are going to try having the Committee Meeting concurrently with the Troop Meeting.  The Committee will meet twice month during the Troop Meeting.  All Parents are welcome. 

March 19  – A decision has been made to cancel the overnight due to conflicting schedules.

March 30New Date – We will host a Meet and Greet to have current Troop 29 parents meet new Webelo families.   Dessert and coffee will be provided and all troop parents are encouraged to attend.   Friends of Scouting Presentation will also be presented.

April 9 – Eagle COH. More Details to follow.

 Summer 2016 Planning – Maine High Adventure

  • Troop 29 would like to determine if there are scouts with interest in going on a High Adventure trip this summer. Please take a few minutes to look at the Maine High Adventure website for details. Mainehighadventure.org.  Information about MHA will be presented at future troop meetings.
  • The High Adventure trip will be separate from, and in addition to, the normal Summer Camp at Squanto. Scouts could potentially attend both Summer Camp and High Adventure or just one. Scouts will need to be 13 years old by Sept. 1, 2016 to attend High Adventure.
  • We are asking for scouts with initial interest to contact the Scoutmaster Mike McGuire or Assistant Scoutmaster Dan Conatser.
