New Scout Requirements: New Boy Scout Rank Requirements as of 1-1-2016 (1)
The Boy Scouts have modified all rank requirements as of January 1, 2016. This should be a seamless changeover, but you should think of 2016 as a transition year during which both the old and the new requirements will be used, based on the Scout’s joining date or his current rank on January 1, 2016.
Scouts who join the Boy Scouts on or after January 1, 2016, MUST follow the new rank requirements. (Attached is a copy of the rank requirements pages from the new handbook. This document is also available on our website.) This will apply to those families who have Webelos crossing over to our troop during the coming months.
Scouts who joined the Boy Scouts prior to January 1, 2016:
- Who are working on the Tenderfoot through First Class ranks MAY continue to follow the old requirements, but MUST convert to the new requirements upon attaining First Class.
- Who have completed the First Class rank MAY complete the rank they are currently working on using the old requirements, but MUST convert to the new requirements for subsequent ranks.
Beginning January 1, 2017, all Scouts MUST use the new requirements regardless of rank.
The Scoutmasters plan to remind all Scouts of these new requirements during Scoutmaster conferences, and will have copies of the new requirements to insert into each Scout’s existing handbook. Please contact Mr. McGuire if you have any questions.
