MERIT BADGE COUNCILORS NEEDED

The Troop needs you to consider becoming a merit badge counselor.   It’s important for our scouts to have counselors available for all white rings which are needed for Eagle Rank and a broad variety of green rings. The Troop would like to have at least 2 counselors for each white ring subject.  There are no counselors for First Aid or Emergency Preparedness!

The Troop has only one counselor for most of the white ring needed for Eagle.  See Anna for details.

Don’t be intimidated by the subject matter. Most of the merit badge requirements can be done by studying the merit badge booklets. A complete list of merit badge subjects and requirements can be found at www.meritbadge.org. The MB Counselor registration form can be found on our website, www.troop29franklin.com.  Please see Jeff Schwartz or Anna dos Santos to sign up!

Message from Mr. Cronin

This Sunday we will replace the misslettes at St. Mary after the 5pm mass.   Could use all hands. Please let me know if you can come.   We will have pizza prior to doing the missletes, we should be done in a  hour.   Plenty time for the game.   This counts as community time.

11/22 – 11/23 CAMP OUT – MONKEY BRIDGE BUILDING @ TREASURE VALLEY

monkey-bridge project
For the November Camp-out, the project is to build a Monkey Bridge – a rope bridge that can be used to cross small streams or ravines and can be assembled from several small ropes and wooden poles using simple lashings and knots.   The bridge itself is held together simply by the tension of the ropes.  It actually get’s stronger when you are walking across!
This project will prove out our knot tying and lashing skills.    The materials we will use are 50′ of 1″ rope for the bottom rail, 100′ of 1/2″ rope for the hand rails, and 100′ of 1/4″ rope cut into 10′ lengths for the side stays.   We will have to build two cross frames for the bridge supports using two types of lashings, then assemble the rope and support sections to make the bridge.
Here is some additional information on the bridge & the permission slip.  Treasure Valley PermSlip 11-22-2013
