Troop News: 1/28/13

THIS WEEK – PLC & COMMITTEE MTGS

  • Please plan on bringing to the meeting the following documents, if you have not already:  BSA – Troop Rechartering and Data Update 2013, and Split Rock 020813 Perm.
  • We need to get a headcount for the Feb trip – only 1 scout has signed up thus far.  Please contact Doug Hartnett at dhartnett@highpointeng.com if your scout plans on attending so that skis and snowshoes can be rented.
  • Please let Bob Latshaw know if you plan to attend the Canoe Trip  – it is important to reserve canoes now.  (details below)

SCOUT SUNDAY & SABBATH

  • Scout Sunday is February 3rd
    • St. Mary’s update:  9AM Mass.  Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts need to be in the lower Church by 8:45.  Class A uniforms!  The scouts will enter the Church together and sit as a group.  Please contact Mr. Cadorette at  rj.cadorette@verizon.net  or 774.571.1183 if you are able to participate in the Mass.
  • Scout Sabbath is February 9th

NEXT WEEK (2/6) – TROOP MEETING!

TROOP COH  WED 2/27/13

Our next troop COH will be on 2/27/13.  All completed activity must be submitted to Mrs. Ryan by 2/6/13. Please plan ahead, exceptions will not be able to be accommodated due to the school vacation week.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, SNOWSHOEING & ICE FISHING 2/9-2/10

  • Details of the trip can be found in the 12/24/12 Troop News
  • Permission Slip:  Split Rock 020813 Perm.  Please contact Doug Hartnet at dhartnett@highpointeng.com today if your scout is attending so that skis and snowshoes can berented.
  • Trip Update:
  1. Saturday Departure – Please arrive at the VFW at 6:30am for a 7:00am departure on Saturday February 9.
  2. Trip Cost $40. This trip is more expensive to run given that we need to buy trail passes and rent skis. So we are adding $15 to the normal cost of $25.
  3. Can You Lend Us Gear?   When you register for the trip with Doug Hartnett, please let us know if you can lend us snowshoes, cross-country ski equipment, or ice fishing gear.

JUNE 21-23 CANOE TRIP – EARLY HEADCOUNT NEEDED

In June we will canoe the Pemigewassett River in northern New Hampshire. Bob Latshaw needs to reserve the canoes for the trip, so he would like to get a headcount. Please send Bob Latshaw an email at boblatshaw@yahoo.com if you and/or your scout plan to attend the trip to ensure we have enough canoes reserved.

Troop News: Week of 1/21/13

THIS WEEK – TROOP MEETING

NEXT WEEK – PLC & COMMITTEE MTGS

  • Please note a change in the troop’s meeting schedule:
  1. January 30 will be a PLC and Troop Committee Meeting and NOT a Troop meeting.
  2. February 6 will be a Troop Meeting.

KLONDIKE UPDATE (1/25-1/26)

  • Yes, it will be cold.  But if scouts come prepared (like scouts always do) it will be 100% fine.
  • Yes, it will snow!  This means that the events will be better than last year which had no snow.
  • Please plan on being at the VFW to be 5:30pm on Friday.   The Scouts will return to the VFW on Saturday at 5:30pm.
  • The adult leaders on the trop will be Kevin Cronin, Tim Cook and Dan Conaster.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, SNOWSHOEING & ICE FISHING 2/9-2/10

TRIP COSTS

Just a few words on the cost of the trips for the rest of the year. For the February and June trips we need to rent equipment, so these trips will cost more than the usual $25. We anticipate that the cost for the March, April and May trips will be the usual $25.

Troop News: 1/7/13

THIS WEEK – TROOP & COMMITTEE MEETING

TROOP RECHARTERING FOR 2013

KLONDIKE:  OPERATION POLAR BEAR  1/25-1/26th

  • Location:  Walpole Sportsman’s Association
  •  Klondike A test of Scout skills and endurance. Boy Scouts compete against Boy Scouts and Webelos Scouts against Webelos Scouts for ribbons and glory. Each Patrol forms into a “Stampeder Dog Sled Team” and competes as a separate expedition.
  • Mountain Man ~ Four Boy Scouts, ages 14 years and older, form a team to compete in a test of marksmanship, archery, axe throwing, log chopping, and skills of ingenuity and stamina. A team consists of exactly four boys from the same Troop.
  • L’Hivernant ~ Boy Scouts best a cold winter night’s sleep out. **Friday, January 25 ONLY **

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING, SNOWSHOEING & ICE FISHING 2/8-2/10

  • Details of the trip can be found in the 12/24/12 Troop News
  • Please contact Doug Hartnett dhartnett@highpointeng.com and let him know if you plan to attend this trip.   Please contact Doug now, but you can bring your Split Rock 020813 Perm to the meeting on January 9.   Please also let Doug know if you can lend snowshoes or cross country skis to the troop for this trip.
  • We will go to the Windblown cross country ski area in New Ipswich, NH. Scouts will snowshoe and cross country ski.   In the afternoon we will return to camp and go ice fishing.
  • The departure time is currently scheduled as Friday February 8. However, if the weather is poor on Friday night, we will start the trip early on February 9.
  • We need adult help …
    • Pull the trailer
    • Driving to and from the campsite and ski area
    • Cook lunch in the parking lot. (We provide the scouts with a hot lunch).
    • Ice fishing. If you can’t attend, can you lend us gear?
    • Ski or snowshoe with scouts.
